In September 2004, the Irish Independent introduced a new science magazine Eureka for primary school students in the 8-12 year age group. Eureka is published twenty four times over the course of the school year. Eureka has been a phenomenal success and has been praised for its leading role in encouraging an interest in science among students all over Ireland. It's bright, colourful and easy to read format has been tailored directly to the needs of students and their teachers alike.

Eureka is written and researched by Paula Kilfeather, Janet Varley, Cliona Murphy and Helena Jeffrey at The Centre for Science Education, St. Patrick's College of Education, Drumcondra, Dublin 9.
Paula Kilfeather has been lecturing in science education and biology in St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin for thirty-four years. She was involved in the development of the revised science curriculum for Primary schools. She is co-author of a resource handbook of assessment tasks for Primary schools. She is also a co-author of the primary science series 'Science All Around Me'(Edco)
Janet Varley spent four years as a research scientist before deciding to move into primary teaching, to get the next generation excited about science. Since then, she has spent five years as a primary teacher and the last six as a lecturer in primary science education both in England and Ireland. In her current job in St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, she has also co-authored a "hands-on" science assessment resource.
Clíona Murphy was a primary school teacher for ten years and specialised in science education in her Masters degree. She has been lecturing in science education in St Patrick's College, Drumcondra for the past seven years and is currently researching her doctorate in science education. Clíona has designed and delivered primary science courses for the INTO throughout the country. She is co-author of the primary science series 'Switch On Science' (Carroll Heinemann publications).
Helena Jeffreyis a primary school teacher who has been an active member of the INTO Science Summer School design team, tutoring at the summer school and contributing to the development of the INTO science manual. Helena has completed science courses at the Dun Laoghaire College of Art, Design and Technology. She is co-author of the school science series 'Switch On Science' ( Carrooll Heinemann publications).
